NOBIPOL-CBE: Centre for Biopolymer Engineering at NTNU

In 2002 NOBIPOL was granted status as 'Center for Biopolymer Engineering' at NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology). This implies funding for 5 years starting October 2002. The research within NOBIPOL-CBE will primarily focus on alginates and chitosans, covering all aspects of biopolymer engineering as described above.

Postdoctoral and doctoral fellowships.
We hereby announce 2 postdoctoral and 2 doctoral fellowships, tentatively starting in July 2003, and one doctoral fellowship starting January 2004. The doctoral fellowships may be associated with any of the research areas covered by the Biopolymer Engineering concept (see below). Regarding the postdoctoral fellowships we are particularly looking for candidates with expertise within some of the following fields:

Genetics and biosynthesis of polysaccharides
Studies of enzymes involved in polysaccharide biosynthesis, modification and degradation
Chemical (structural) properties of polysaccharides, with particular emphasis on NMR methods
Physical properties of polysaccharides for characterising polysaccharides both in solution and in the gel state (NMR, calorimetry etc.)

The applicants are invited to work in a dynamic, enthusiastic, and truly multidisciplinary environment with focus on challenging scientific problems as well as co-operation with the industry.
The postdoctoral fellowships (2-3 years) are open to qualified applicants of any nationality holding a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in relevant fields.
The doctoral fellowships (3-4 years) are open for students who formally qualify for Ph.D. programmes at NTNU.

Deadline for applications:
- For fellowships starting July 2003: 31 May 2003
- For fellowships starting January 2004: 31 October 2003
